Wine Bottle Lights

Wine | November 6th, 2009 No comments

Every year when it comes to Christmas holiday or even as just a festive decoration it is fun to make some crafts for yourself, family or friends. Making some wine bottle lights is a very easy way to take an old wine bottle and use a little imagination and make a personalized light for yourself or each person you want to give one to.

Here is some information on how to make a wine bottle light:

Wash and Dry and Beginning Construction

Wash out the wine bottle and then let it dry before you do anything else. Next you’re going to need a ½” glass cutter with a drill. If you spray a little lubrication onto the drill bit before you start drilling the process will go fairly easy. You’re going to be using this hole to string the lights so it’s ok to put it near the bottom you just don’t want it all the way at the base.

The important thing when you’re drilling the hole in is to let the drill work for you don’t try to force the drill in by putting pressure into it. If you just let it slowly drill through the glass you’ll avoid the extra pressure that might end up shattering the glass. Please note that it might take 5 or so minutes so don’t think it’s taking too long and just be patient with it.

Once more you’re going to want to wash the bottle out and let it dry.

Frosted the Wine Bottle

After the bottle is completely dry the next thing you’re going to do is frost the bottle. You’ll want to be sure to spray the wine bottle evenly and put on a total of 2-3 coats

When wine bottle is dry the next step is to frost the wine bottle. Spray the wine bottle evenly with two to three coats. It’s ok to frost over the label. Let dry completely.

Final Steps

After you’re done with all of the work you’ll just need to place a string of Christmas lights into the bottle through the hole that you drilled before. You’ll want to make sure that you leave the plug out. After you’re done with the lights make sure you put the cork back in to finish off the look.
