Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD--not very deep, but still--the show has some serious themes that I really relate to. Plus, James Marsters is amazing as Spike--the arc of the character's progression from homicidal bad guy to hero owes a lot to the actor's amazing skill.

Astrology is a recent interest as well--I've learned that as a Capricorn, it's in my nature to be melancholic at times, to be on a quest for identity, and to need a lifestyle that is holistic.

And finally, the Style Statement book--it's helping me in my quest for identity.

Dear mary b, Thanks you for replying to my message. I guess part of my dispair has been that I AM doing everything WELL- from diet to exercise to support group to psychotherapy to medication compliance. My labs are all NORMAL! I've lost nearly 70 lbs. I walk 3-5 miles/day. I take time for myself. I identify the stresses in my life and I DO something about it. I am a poster child for post heart attack turn around. My only uncontrollable risk factor is my heritage. My father and his father both died in their early 50's of heart attacks. I suppose (now) that it's true that life is not necessarily "fair" and that we get what we get, but darn it, NOT ME!!!! I see that I'm moving through some grief here about loss of what I previously thought my life course would be, and my self-proclaimed identity. AND, as I said to Chuck (above), there are gifts/blessings to be had through this. I just don't want to die yet, and it seems that the "veil" is a little thin right now. I really appreciate the fragility as well as the toughness and resilience of my own life. I also appreciate the generosity and kindness of your reply. I AM in a cardiac rehab program and wish that the rest of the world knew and could avail themselves of these services and opportunities. Thanks again, Mary B, and I hope to meet up again about something less about ME, and more about my engagement with the world. Love, Melissa.

Hey Chuck-- Thanks SO much for your reply- Sometimes it feels like the best thing is to just "throw it out there" and see who is listening. Since I posted my message, I've come to some new level of peace. Reading your message reminded me of all of the stuff that I KNOW- That I am ALIVE, not dying, that I am inherently strong, that it's up to ME to "talk about it" and that most of these dark nights of the soul have a following morning, though the sun might be wintery weak. There ARE gifts in this misfortune- learning to ask for help, finding my REAL self, figuring out what my values really are, and connecting (vs separating) from the world. Thanks again, and may we all dwell in peace! Melissa.

You can do it! I used to feel the same way. I yearned to dance, but only did it when I was super drunk AND it was in a very, very dark room. After taking classes regularly (though not strenuously) for a few years, I now have total self confidence on the dance floor.

It's been on month since I've been diagnosed a diabetic...my obsession has been food, what to eat, how to eat, what raises blood sugar, what doesn't - it is all so new that I have been hyper focused on it. Reading everything I can get my hands on.
