What is the quirkiest thing in your home that you will never give away?

It’s not clutter! It’s art! And it’s mine, all mine! Today’s question comes to us from regular C&D contributor, Sarah Juliusson.

Carrie says: A deer skull I found on a hike. It reminds me of the fragility of life and the amazing design of beings.

Danielle says: I’ve got a thing for, uh, rust. I pick up rusty nails and bits on walks and put them in my pocket. It’s a compulsion. I have an intensely rusted slice of a car door that I found buried by the riverside in an old growth forest. It’s so deformed, with it’s ends curled this way and that, it looks like soft fabric. Once upon a time, it hung over our fireplace. I think I’ll move it back there…

Sarah says: I have a thing for old metal tools and oddities. On my walls. Living room walls, to be specific. I can’t explain it, really, it started many years ago when I found a beautiful scythe on the ground outside the donations area of a thrift store early one morning. There it sat with this wooden handle and a curved blade in deep oxidized metallic colors of blue and green. I fell in love. The collection grew to include an old saw with a beautiful engraved handle, vintage keyhole plates, and even a large piece of rusted metal that I found way up in the mountains in El Paso, Texas. They feel grounding to me. An ex-boyfriend who claimed to see spirits said there was the ghost of a wonderful old man in my apartment who loved touching my key plates. I took that as a compliment!
