What is the Need for Private Yoga Classes?

Healing, Health & Wellness, Yoga | December 12th, 2009 No comments

Yoga has become a rage in the west with more and more people starting to practice Yoga every single day. This has undoubtedly resulting in the mushrooming of a number of yoga studios and workshops in and around large cities. However, yoga classes are not for everyone. There are so many people who are keen on practicing Yoga, but can never make it to a yoga class for a variety of different reasons. Eventually, they miss out on the many benefits yoga can bring into their lives. That is the main reason the popularity of private yoga classes has been on the increase. But, what is the need for a private yoga class, you ask? Well, here are your answers:

Traditionally, a yoga master taught yoga to only one student at a time. The main reason for this was that while the eventual goal of yoga – body, mind, spirit equilibrium – remains the same, every student of yoga has to carve out his or her own path. Every individual is unique in body, mind and spirit and needs to harmonize with the oneness of the universe in his or her own unique way. Nowadays, the spiritual aspects of practicing yoga have taken a back seat to the physical and mental benefits, but the principle remains the same. Your body and mind are unique and need to be trained in unique ways. The best way to address this is with a private yoga class.

If you have a specific physical condition like arthritis or diabetes, there is all the more reason for you to arrange for private yoga lessons. Not all yoga poses will be appropriate for you to practice, while some may be more beneficial than the others. You will not get the personal attention of a yoga instructor in a yoga class, but in private yoga lessons, your yoga teacher can focus only on those yoga poses that are beneficial for you. Also, if you are obese or inflexible, and need modifications to the yoga poses, a private yoga tutor is sure to be more accommodating that the one conducting a large class.

One of the biggest reasons, we tend to opt for yoga classes is because they find themselves being competitive and aggressive in a yoga class. Competition and aggression in yoga are totally pointless and are likely to have an adverse effect rather than a positive one. Unfortunately, we have all been taught the virtues of competitiveness and aggression right from our childhood and we often find it difficult to let go of these traits. Instead of being counter-productive in a yoga class, it is best that you find private yoga lessons so that you can focus on your increasing facility with Yoga rather than worrying about how much better or worse others are doing in comparison to you.

There are many other advantages of private yoga classes, for instance, you don’t need to worry about traveling to and from yoga classes and can practice yoga in the comfort of your home.
