What is Lasek vision? A modification and combination of Lasik with prk laser is what LASEK (laser epithelial keratomileusis) is all about. It is a combination of many benefits from both LASIK as well as prk laser and will deliver amazing laser vision results when used on right patients.

Rather than making a corneal flap using a blade, top layer of your cornea gets treated with alcohol. This will get it detached from underlying tissue and then gets rolled back. The exposed tissue is then treated with laser that is used with prk laser or LASIK. The top layer is replaced in its original position. By using this layer it provides a greater comfort over prk laser and avoids some rare complications associated with the LASIK flap at the same time. If the flap tissue does not get back into its original place properly, it will be removed and surgeon will continues the prk process instead. A LASEK surgery preserves the very thin layer of epithelium. This layer is lifted from the top of the eye before the procedure. After the layer has been lifted, laser energy can be applied for changing the shaping the cornea. After the procedure is complete, this epithelial layer is perfectly replaced on surface of the eye.

The difference between Lasik and Lasek is that in LASIK, a thicker flap is made with microkeratome tool. In Lasek, an ultra thin corneal flap is made by a special tool called as trephine. Lasek is used for people whose corneas are very thin or very steep for Lasik. In this case it will be hard to make a thick Lasik flap. The Lasek procedure was developed to lessen the chances of complication that could occur in procedures where the flap is created.

With Lasek recovery of vision is much slower compared to Lasik. According to surgeons that perform Lasek, your flap edges heal in a day. The patients will usually wear the bandage or contact lens up to four days for protecting the eye.
