What have you done recently to make yourself feel proud?

Q&A | November 25th, 2008 No comments

“You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride.” Cesar Chavez. Today’s inspired question comes from our regular contributor, UK-based, children’s book writer and literary aficionado, Ms. Keris Stainton.

Carrie says: Went to Kundalini yoga. Fully listened to my husband describe in great detail the building of our studio.

Danielle says: Baked brownies with my boy. Meditated on forgiveness. Made some notes for my next book!

Keris says: “Proud” is not a word that I use very often, I must admit. I’m not house-proud, I don’t really take much pride in my appearance (I’m working on it, honestly). I even tend to belittle my professional achievements, but I’ve heard the Heather Small song, Proud, a few times recently (once, notably, at the induction night for my son’s school) and it makes me sob.

So what have I done to make me feel proud? I’m proud of my four-year-old son walking into school without me (and proud that he first told me he was going to miss me). I’m proud of the writing I’ve done (and the writing I still have to do). I’m proud that I’m on the way to having my dream job (and, at the very least, no longer doing the job that made me miserable for so long). And I’m proud that I have such talented, inspiring and supportive friends.
