We ask. You answer. Every question gets you thinking about what's true for you.

What do you find beautiful about your body?

From the thick hair that you have your genes to thanks for, to the breath you take, or the super fine bootie you work hard for… Today’s question was inspired by Beckie Temple, who feels that beauty has a lot to do with brains. She’d know. Beckie is the editor of a blog for Women Over 40 and one half of the dynamic-duo that founded the Girl Woman Beauty Brains blog.

Carrie says: My body has taught me commitment, perseverance and joy, gift-wrapped in soft golden skin.

Danielle says: My eyes open doors.

Water for Elephants by Sarah GruenBeckie says: A few years ago, I had a cry-fest at a book club party because my friends had called me skinny bitch so often over the years that I had lost a piece of my self-confidence. Some of the tears I shed, I am sure, could be attributed to menopause, but in all honesty, my feelings were deeply hurt. (With arms that resemble twigs, I hit the weights at the gym to try to add more bark to my biceps. All my ectomorphic body ended up with was multiple muscle strains. I drank Steak n’ Shake milkshakes. I ended up with a cholesterol reading of 220.)

When skinny bitch was offered at the dinner table by my women friends once again, I put my head in my hands to hide my tears. It turned out to be a very positive and emotional evening for all. We sat around the dining room table and instead of discussing Water for Elephants, we discussed how body fascism has affected women. What I find most beautiful about my body is…my body!
