Carrie & Danielle

We’re happy, did you know it?

Gretchen Rubin had an a-ha moment while riding the bus one day with her daughter. Just like any ol’ day they were heading to elementary school when her daughter burst out with joy about the city scenery. And it struck Gretchen that THIS was life. There was no magical, evolved place to arrive at. Everyday was an opportunity to be happy.

So she gave herself a year to “test-drive every principle, tip, theory, and scientific study” on happiness. And the Happiness Project was born. Her blog is wildly popular (because it’s inspiring and useful. We especially like this Wednesday Tip on cutting down what you buy,) and her book comes out next year!

She interviewed us about our happiness metrics. It made us stop…and smile. You should try these questions on for yourself. This was one of our favourites:

Have you ever been surprised that something you expected would make you very happy, didn’t – or vice versa?

Read our answers, and if it pleases, chime in to the discussion: Happiness interview with Carrie McCarthy and Danielle LaPorte.

Happily yours,

Carrie & Danielle

I really enjoy the Happiness Project too, and your answers. I was prompted to comment now because of two answers you gave Carrie which would have been identical to mine! I can’t remember the exact wording of the questions, but the one about what do you say to yourself when things aren’t so good and your answer was ‘this too will pass’ - I use that all the time when talking to myself and others as it acts like a great touchstone to quickly get yourself out of a state of mind. And another of your answers for when you feel down ‘calling your twin sister’ - snap, me too. Looking forward to checking out your Style Statement book now and keeping up with your blog.

How is the journey going with your Style Statement? Thank you for your contribution to our daily Q&A, it is heart warming to know our message is being shared. Are you a twin?

Yes I am so very much a twin! Like you Carrie, my twin is very much my best friend. And in fact I was talking to my parents earlier about whether being twins stalls (for want of a better word) one’s relationship with others). I am single and in my 40s and my twin is married but lately so and she and her husband and I share a property when I’m in the UK (I also spend lots of my time in Cape Town). I’d be very interested in your views as a twin as to whether being one put off your having to built a relationship with another. I so want to read your Style Statement book and have still not managed to - hopefully soon. Thanks for your reply and interested in your further thoughts. All the best Tam x
