Receptions can sometimes be extremely stiff and boring at times. I don’t think that’s ever truly intended but it happens; however, with some great ideas and tips you’ll be able to make your guests happy, relaxed and ready to party.

Eating

Most people find it extremely difficult and hate waiting around for the actual reception to begin. Since there is the wedding party and then the pictures for the couple at the ceremony once it’s over the reception can sometimes take quite a long time to begin.

• Have some music already going for when the guests begin to show up
• Have drinks and some stuff to snack on for them
• You could have dinner proceed shortly before you’re going to arrive should you be anticipate it being a little while, by the time the last of the guests are going through the line you should be arriving
• The buffet is better than the serving route as it will allow your guests the ability to pick and choose and then eat as little or as much as they’d like, generally cheaper on the pocket book as well
• Have a lot of beverage options for your guests, from drinks for the kids to the alcoholic beverages for the adults
• Open bar if it’s in your budget, if not you could always do a couple of kegs
• Make sure to invest some time in finding the right DJ or band, having some awesome music is a key part of the reception, if you have a horrid DJ or an inexperienced one having some issues the mood is going to drop quickly and might not pick back up again
• On the RSVP’s you could have your guests maybe pick a favorite song or two then ask the DJ or band to incorporate these into the ceremony
• Have a good mix of music going, not everyone likes the same genre

Some fun and original ideas will make your wedding reception one your guests will not just truly enjoy but also leave them with some lasting memories of your reception. Here are some final thoughts:

• Pass out some disposable cameras, the guests will love it
• Don’t have assigned seating
• Have something for the kids to do
