Types of Green Building Products
As more and more people are becoming green-minded citizens and want to play their role of erecting structures that are environmentally friendly, the use of green building products in the building of offices, homes, and different plant facilities has become very common. Actually, there are a number of resources that can be used to create sustainable structures and help reduce the harm caused on the ecosystem. The following are some of the types of building products that are used to create a green environment, and how often they are used.
Recycled Materials
These are apparently the basis of sustainable building. Since there is very little, if any, extra material needed to make these already made building materials feasible in constructing buildings, there would be no extra depletion on the earth’s resources. Old tires are a perfect example of green building products which can be used to create decorative elements like baseboards, insulation, and other things like pipe systems in the buildings such as homes.
Natural Materials
Natural sustainable products that can be used are normally environmentally-friendly and can create a very good foundation for a comfortable office building or a home. A perfect example of a natural material is straw. Normally, straw would be left to rot in the ground and become fodder for animals once the growing season is over and everything has been harvested but green building methods can use such straw bales to make both interior and exterior walls of a building.
Renewable Resources
These are equally important in green building especially renewable resources that are purposely sustainable e.g. harvested wood that is normally replaced with new plants once every harvest is made. Use of renewable resources not only creates a green environment but ensures that the future generations will get resources to use in their environmentally friendly projects. Naturally though, the harvested wood has to be licensed as sustainable by an independent third party organization.
Reclaimed Materials
Other sustainable products that can be used are reclaimed materials from local constructions. The benefits of rescued building materials is the fact that there would be no extra manufacturing involved, neither will there be a consumption of fossil fuels in the course of the building project because the materials will not be transported from far-away places.
Reclaimed bricks, timber, among other elements also reduce the cost of construction as the materials are normally available at an affordable rate compared to newly manufactured products. Just the cost factor makes reclaimed materials very attractive to people who might not be mainly concerned with the environment. Regardless of the sustainable materials used for construction, their use helps the environment in very many ways. First and foremost, green building products help prevent lots of materials from ending up in garbage dump sites or landfills. Secondly, they lower the need to use of limited or depleting resources to erect new structures. Thirdly, they help in ensuring that tomorrow’s generation enjoy an equally fulfilling quality of life as that enjoyed by the current generation.
