Fitness | November 14th, 2009
Family Fitness is a great way to ensure the health and fitness of your entire family while spending quality time with them having fun. More and more families across the country are planning on getting their daily work out while being engaged in fun activities. Here are a few tips on how you can get started:
- Decide on a fixed time everyday that you will spend on family fitness fun. Choose a time slot that is convenient to all your family members.
- Ensure that all the members of your family participate. Even if you have elderly family members or young children, they can be involved in fun and interesting ways.
- Ensure that any specials needs and requirements of your family members are taken care of.
- Take turns in deciding what activities you should take up as an activity for one week each. There are loads of different options to choose from, whether indoor or outdoor. Indoor activities involve using Wii Fit, aerobics, Yoga, dancing, weight training, and fitness exercises like push up, pull ups, squats, etc. Outdoor activities may involve running, skipping, cycling, swimming, playing tennis, etc. You can look up the net for more ideas.
- Keep a log of all the fitness exercises undertaken each week and results, if any like weight lose, improved performance, etc. This will help keep track of everything you are doing and the results will help motivate you to continue.
- Ensure that you give every member of the family to use his or her strength as well as develop others.
- You may want to even consider making regular excursions as part of family fitness. You could take on activities like camping, hiking, canoeing, river rafting, horse riding, etc. and combine a short holiday with family fitness on a regular basis. It will not only be enjoyable and be good for your body, it will also help recharge your batteries and leave you feeling rejuvenated.
- Make personal goals for each family member. For instance, someone wants to lose 15 pounds. Break this goal into smaller, more manageable units or say 3 pounds per week. This will ensure that the goals remain attainable and no family member is discouraged from following the fitness regime.
- Also have a reward system in place to encourage family members to meet their personal goals. Ensure that you do not reward them with something that would actually hamper their progress, like a favorite pastry. Instead, choose rewards that will compliment their health and fitness work out, for instance, hydrotherapy at a spa.
- While there will certainly be some competitiveness as each family member tries to meet his or her personal goal quickest. However, ensure that the competitiveness does not get out of hand. No family member should push themselves too hard or too much. It defeats the whole purpose of having fun. Also, it is dangerous as it could lead to physical injuries. Ensure that the environment is always encouraging and positive and at no time, highly competitive.
