The Phenomenal Power of Saying No: My Weekend With Women Entrepreneurs
This weekend I spoke at a conference for OptionElle. OptionElle is an international direct sales fashion company – and as far as I can tell, they’re full steam ahead for continued, major growth. (They currently gross about $10 million annually.) The excitement within this group of women – from the newbies to the oldies who have be fashion reps for over a decade – is poppin’. My biztuition tells me they’re about to create a new tipping point for the company.
They started the event with each entrepreneur talking about what they are grateful for. It’s a brilliant way to begin any gathering. The room was vibrating with proof of success…and love. Foremost to the clothing line they each sell out of their living rooms (which they are wild about,) and above the livelihood they earn from it, nearly everyone of them expressed gratitude for the wonderful teaching and motivation that they get from each other. Yep – it’s always about the relationships – always.
After Carrie and I talk to any group (and this was the first time we weren’t an on-stage-duo since we’ve been a duo. Carrie was on holiday so I felt like Lucy without Ethel,) we pay attention to what notes most resound with our audience. We cherish the side-stage convos that happen while we’re signing Style Statement books or meeting the group. And a concept that really jazzed the OptionElle ladies was this: THE PHENOMENAL POWER OF SAYING NO.
I talked deeply about creating clarity for your self about two things:
- What is your genius? Everyone has a gift, something that they’re great at – everyone, no exceptions.
- How do you want to feel in your life – in every area of your life?
When you use your gifts to generate the feelings you most desire to feel, you will be unstoppable. For starters, you will know when to say yes and just as importantly…when to say no.
If you’re committed to be true to your essential self, NO becomes a very powerful practice. From projects and people that don’t groove 100% with your values, to clothes and stuff that don’t match your spirit…
“No, thank you,” makes time for what matters the most.
“No, thank you,” lends dignity and respect to everyone involved.
“No, thank you,” sharpens focus and builds momentum.
“No, thank you,” creates space for the “Yeses!” to show up.
Thank you to Monica and the OptionElle entrepreneurs for saying Yes to our inspiration.
With Love,
Danielle
