The Importance of Home Budgeting
Home budgeting is a plan that will help you to ensure that you have a balanced and spendable income in your home. It can include your monthly but also to your quarterly and yearly income budgeting. The first goal is to just get started period.
The unfortunate reality is that most women don’t realize that they are actually the primary administrator of the home and that there is a lot of responsibility that lies on their shoulders. (The only exception to this would of course be the single parent household.) Generally the husband is out there making the money and the wife is there to support with whatever income she brings in as well as running the household.
Anytime we are able to talk about budgeting in the home is timely. The reason for this is that for the most part women and households in general have fallen into a very serious debt. Having budgeting discipline makes sure that someone isn’t spending over their spendable income and not spending all of the money that comes into the house on materialism. Budgeting comes down to the determination of how much money is being spent and what the money is being spent on.
Spendable Income
The dollar amount that you have available to spend is what is your spendable income. When you plan out your monthly, quarterly and yearly budgets you should center them on this income.
For example let’s take the following numbers:
• Monthly income is $30k
• Taxes are $1,500
• Donations are $3k
• Savings $1,500
• Debt repayments $1,500
With all of those figures less your income you have a spendable income amount of $22,500. You should put those under the following categories:
• Food
• Utilities
• Phone
• Entertainment
• Fuel and car
• Any individually specific categories
Make sure that you’re not including things like shoes and clothes as these aren’t your monthly spending. You just want fixed or close estimated amounts on what you spend every single month. If you do have a clothing monthly allotment you could include this.
As an honest woman you know at your core that you can’t afford to live beyond your means. It’s important that you continue to be honest with yourself and cut down on the costs of your lifestyle and know that budgeting is the guide that will help you with your spending so you can have enough to run the household.
The Aims of Budgeting
There are three things that I leave you with that, among others, you need to think about before making purchasing decisions:
• Ensure that the money that you’re/the household is spending isn’t greater than the money brought in
• To steer clear of anything that isn’t a need avoiding purchases that are going to keep you in debt
• Avoid the establishment of a lifestyle that is well beyond your ability to pay aka live within your means
By following the information contained and using it as a core guide you’ll be able to get yourself back on track or stay on track to a financially viable household.
