The First Step on a Healing Journey
Each and every one of us is at a different stage of evolution in our respective lives. We have all chosen different paths and are the sum total of our experiences. Hence, we all have different destinations and have different goals to achieve. But there is no denying that we all have to traverse our chosen paths with fortitude and resilience, and we all need all the help we can get to complete our journeys. To do so, we each need to first set foot on a healing journey.
The lives we lead are long and complicated. There are highs and lows; with moments of depression and exhilaration; lethargy and exuberance; chaos and serenity. This constant rollercoaster ride of life takes its toll on our mental and physical health and calls for a great deal of healing to enable us to meet the challenges of life head on.
The process of healing requires more than just medicines and doctors. It goes beyond the ingestion of antibiotics or the application of a scalpel. This is because we need to heal from the inside. We need to heal our minds and emotions just as much as we need to heal our bodies. It is only when we restore our spirits that we can rejuvenate our bodies. A healthy mind leads to a healthy body.
There are many ways to heal the mind and body. Many healing traditions that were lost in the mists of time have been revived in recent times. Many of these are in the form of natural therapies. A large number of people are turning to these natural therapies all over the world today. Many choose to travel great distances in order to experience natural therapies prevalent in different parts of the world.
Natural therapies include a wide spectrum of alternative therapies such as acupuncture, aroma therapy, chiropractic, herbal medicine, color therapy, sound therapy, acupressure, alternative medicine, massage therapy, light therapy, hands on healing, energy healing, meditation, Unani and Ayurveda, among others. However, one of the most popular forms of natural therapies worldwide is yoga.
Amazing yoga has taken the world by storm. Once the domain of holy men and spiritual leaders, yoga today is widely practiced globally and is strongly advocated for its healing capabilities. One of the reasons amazing yoga has appealed to so many people is its accessibility. A traditional healing practice in India, yoga has been passed down through the ages and is known to many. This knowledge has been transferred through word of mouth, and is now taught at innumerable classes and workshops by qualified practitioners.
Yoga’s appeal lies in its simplicity. All we are expected to do is breathe properly, meditate and practice a series of postures, with self control and discipline. The greatest advantage in yoga is that we can do it ourselves. We don’t need to go to a doctor. We don’t need to depend on anyone else. All we need is a good teacher to learn from. How well we do depends on how well we practice. For our own good.
