The Adrenaline Rush of Gym Classes
Everyone’s a fitness freak these days! A new gym opens up almost every other day and before you know it there’s a waiting list for membership. This seems to have become a worldwide phenomenon as more and more people are becoming particular about their diets and fitness regime. People are consciously controlling their diets, giving up smoking, cutting down on drinking and making other lifestyle changes geared to making them healthier and fitter. And of course, the first priority on their agenda is to join gym classes.
Gyms these days are becoming increasingly hi-tech. They are acquiring high end equipment which not only monitor your vitals, but do just about everything for you except the actual workout! So, while the gym instructor tells you what to do based on your individual needs, the machines tell you what speed you’ve achieved, what your pulse rate is and how many calories you’ve burned. All this makes it so much easier for you to monitor your own progress.
Being aware of the calories you’re burning helps motivate you to push on when you find yourself flagging. Also, attending a gym class with a group of people all sharing your goal tends to make you feel like you’re not alone in your struggle to become fit. And the prospect of doing so is definitely more palatable than trying to drag your self out of bed at the crack of dawn to go jogging all alone.
Gym classes give you the opportunity to share your problems with other like minded people. It really helps to know that others too become breathless on the treadmill just as you do. Or that someone else also has a problem lifting those weights! The bench press suddenly doesn’t seem quite so formidable when you watch someone else using it.
Of course, the best part of gym classes is the presence of a qualified instructor, because it really is so easy to make a mistake which can injure you. An instructor can assess your strengths and weaknesses, and design a regimen that will suit your requirements. You can then aspire to levels of fitness based on your capability without pushing yourself too much.
If working out on machines is not your trip, and yet you want to lose weight and get fit, you can also opt for aerobics classes. Ever since Jane Fonda advocated aerobics decades back, aerobics classes have become a part of so many people’s lives. Although it can be a bit intimidating initially, once you feel the rush, you will find it quite addictive. And of course, you will want to feel the ‘burn’ that is much talked about. Once aerobics become a part of your life, you will start missing your daily dose of working out.
For those who want something a bit more aggressive while building muscle, boxing classes are an option too. Boxing classes help you to develop more agility and alertness. The level of skill required to box effectively also appeals to those who are looking for something more challenging while working to become fit.
