Flowers have an expression of countenance as much as men or animals. Some seem to smile; some have a sad expression; some are pensive and diffident; others again are plain, honest and upright, like the broad-faced sunflower and the hollyhock. – Henry Ward Beecher, Star Papers: A Discourse of Flowers
Carrie says: Peonies: full, lush, elegant and casual. They live a short life with passion and power then fade.
Danielle says: As I wrote in Style Statement, I think my favorite flower is “yet to be discovered…it grows deep in the jungle somewhere and only blooms on a full moon.” But other than that Sacred Dramatic-ness: heavy white orchids in terra cotta pots. They last for ages. Durable but particularly sensitive.
Jessica Ireland is living her Style Statement, making authentic choices. Hey, doesn’t she look vibrant, confident and sure to be noticed! Of course she’s Comfortable Bold. Thanks for sharing Jessica!
“I needed a change, a light bulb went off when I realized that my haircut didn’t fit with the comfortable part of my Style Statement. I knew my first word Comfortable early on but the Boldcame in a flash when I was contemplating my creative edge. When I told my boyfriend he smiled and said, “Yeah, that’s definitely you.” I decided to start with my hair and I love my casual and dramatic new look!”
Carrie says: From Bruce Mau’s Manifesto, “Don’t be cool. Cool is conservative fear dressed in black. Free yourself from limits of this sort.” And a practical shopping tip: buy three times as many tops as bottoms. Money tight? Get your eyebrows done, your eyes are the windows of your soul!
Danielle says: Tapered pants should be outlawed. NO ONE looks good in them. One size bigger is very often better. And…of course, having a Style Statement is the foundation of a great wardrobe.
Speaking of getting your eyebrows done, ever heard of “eyebrow threading”? Learn more about this ancient art form and watch Carrie getting hers done.
My blog handle was my first BIG step into living my Style Statement and it’s been great to be known and associated with it. It really expressed who I am, and strive to be everyday. I write what I am passionate about, and makes me happy. I write about what I enjoy and who or what inspires me.
How did you you arrive at your Style Statement?
I was browsing Barnes and Noble for some interesting books to add to my book collection when I found the Style Statement book. I actually thought it was something that I would read about and be inspired by, not a Q&A that really made me think. After finishing school and living away from home I had grown and changed so much that I needed to redefine who I was. The self discovery in this book was eye opening and it felt good.
What does your Style Statement mean to you? How do you interpret your first and second words?
It reminds me to be who I am naturally and accept that. Being creative has always been apart of who I am, so that felt right from the beginning. I have realized that I am great at creating beautiful things and do it naturally, so the fit was near perfect.
