Momcafé is a Vancouver-based forum to connect and inspire women. Their writing contest is wide open to entrants from any locale. The grand prize is a $500 shopping spree (in-store or on-line!) from Please Mum - a top quality clothing retailer for kids. Carrie and I spoke at one of their events in Vancouver last week and they announced this writing contest:

Summer Writing Contest

From July 9 to August 31, 2008, we invite you to use your long summer days or nights to write articles, essays, and stories that will provide moms of all ages with creative reading…

You know you have been dying to put pen to paper and get that story out there for a long time. And whether you favor action thrillers, biographies, romance novels (or ‘bodice rippers’ as the Brits call them), educational essays or business articles, our five categories will give you enough creative leeway to get going.

We encourage budding writers of all ages, and both professionals and amateurs to participate. Why? We want to provide our mom community with original material that is just for them. They are thirsty for fact and fiction that is focused on them. That’s why the entries need to be 500 words or less. Otherwise, moms simply won’t have time to read them!

It’s so easy and a great way for budding authors to get their work into the hands of eager readers.
