Massage Therapy

A massage provides deep relaxation. As our muscles and body relax our overstressed mind does as well. Every time we’re stressed we of course don’t have the time to run out and go to the spa; however, there are many self-massage techniques we can use to help relax and reduce our stress.

Techniques for Self-Massage

Scalp Soother – Place the thumbs behind the ears and then spread your fingers on top of your head. Start moving your scalp back and forth a little by using the tips of your fingers to make circles. Continue for about 15-20 seconds.

Eyes – Close your eyes then you’re your ring fingers right under the eyebrows (near the bridge of the nose.) Use pressure, increasing it slowly for 5-10 seconds then gently release it repeating about 2-3 times.

Shoulder Tension – Reach one of your arms across the front of the body to the opposite shoulder, then using a circular motion press firmly on the muscle above the shoulder for about 15-30 seconds then repeat on the other side.

We of course don’t always have the time and get a professional massage and though self-massage can be good for stress relief there is nothing better than getting a massage from a professional. It can be a tremendously relaxing experience and will be more through then anything you’d be able to do yourself.

When you go to book the massage make sure you try out the Swedish or the Shiatsu as those are specific massages to promote an overall relaxation. The deep tissue massage or a sports massage are massages that are much more aggressive and often will target specific areas that will leave you sore for 1-2 days or so which make them far less effective for the purposes of relaxation and stress relief.
