Staying Fit with Family Fitness
Here’s a new take on an old phrase – a family that exercises together, stays together. This is so true. These days, medical insurance is so high most people can’t afford it and entire families find it quite prohibitive. This creates a lot of insecurity in the home since even one person falling ill can affect the family as a whole. Sedentary lifestyles and junk food diets compound the problem. So the only way to combat this is to initiate a family fitness program.
Family fitness involves planning a fitness schedule that will suit the entire family. This necessitates taking into account the state of health and level of fitness of each family member. It also means that each persons daily schedule has to be considered and a program has to be planned that will suit everyone. Early mornings are ideal to start a fitness schedule before the working or school day starts for anyone.
Family fitness can be planned around group activities such as jogging, or aerobics. For the elders in the family, morning walks or yoga would be most suitable. The family’s mental fitness can also be cared for by practicing group meditation.
The other important factor in family fitness is to work out a diet program that will suit all the members of the family. You have to consider if someone has high blood pressure or diabetes. Meals that are healthy as well as fun (for the youth in the family) will be enjoyed by all. Ensure a balanced diet of proteins, minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates and so on to meet everyone’s nutritional requirements. Include the requisite quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables, legumes and pulses and lean meats and fish. The right combination of exercise and diet will ensure family fitness for all.
Another way to ensure fitness for the whole family is to enroll everyone for fitness classes. The incentive to go and workout in a gym or exercise studio is so much higher when the family goes together. The group activity offers a great deal of motivation to sweat it out to get fitter. Fitness classes incorporate a large number of activities to suit everyone’s health and capabilities.
Most places that offer fitness classes also offer many facilities such as well equipped studios or gyms, and qualified instructors. The advantage of fitness classes is that they have classes running through the day, so in spite of the family having busy work or study schedules, timings that are convenient for all can be worked out.
So as you can see, the health and fitness of your family should have top priority. And the best way to ensure this is to plan a health and fitness program that applies to the whole family. A balanced diet combined with an exercise regimen will ensure physical fitness and all round good health for the whole family. This in turn will lead to lower medical bills and fewer doctors’ visits for all the members of the family. So if your family is fit, you too will be fit!
