The stay at home parent isn’t just for mothers anymore. If you’ve made the decision to stay at home or you’re going to need to stay at home out of necessity you’ll be wonder what type of work that you can do and stay at home. When situations change some parents will go back to the previous career or some will find that the change they made is a good permanent one.

You’ll need to identify the career that you’re going to want to follow and make the applicable list of skills that you have that would help you with that choice. Also make a list of the skills that you would have for a new type of job you may have not considered until now.

You’re going to want to network with other professions, join groups and forums and search the online networks that match employers with providers. There is a little bit of everything out there. The more you put yourself and your skill set out there the more job opportunities that are going to come your way.

If you’re still a little lost or you know other stay at home working parents you should get with them and find out what they did and how they were able to make it work. The path that they took might not be the right one for you but it could at least work to put you into a proper direction to take.

You’ll need to build up your portfolio of past work that you’ve done that will help put you ahead of the competition and also make sure that your resume and cover letter is up to snuff. Often the first thing that the employer will look at is a cover letter. If the cover letter doesn’t leave them wanting more than no matter how good for the job you would be they aren’t likely to go past it.

If you need to boost some of your skills you could look for some cheaper certification courses or even consider finishing off your degree if you don’t have one yet.
