With so much junk food becoming a part of our everyday lives, it is important to have some kind of knowledge about eating healthy food. Our lives have become so fast-paced and hectic that it has become almost am impossibility to sit down and have a quiet home cooked meal, which is both, healthy to eat and relaxing to the mind and body. It is important to keep in mind some basic nutrition facts. This helps an individual and the entire family, to eat healthy and keep sicknesses and illnesses at bay.
Here are some facts that can be kept in mind with regard to different kinds of food and the nutrients they provide. There are some foods like milk, various kinds of bread, common table salt, and cereal which are mixed with extra vitamins. If there is not enough fortification of vitamins, most people would not be able to get enough of certain vitamins like vitamin D, E, folic acid, iron, and iodine. Some vitamins like vitamin C and E are added to processed foods as preservatives, but not in enough quantities to be nutritionally meaningful.
It is advisable to avoid certain processed foods like the everyday cereals and most breads. But if one avoids these processed foods then it may get a bit difficult to reach the minimum requirement on certain kinds of nutrients. If someone wants to avoid processed foods and get his nutrients from some other sources, he or she has to plan out the daily food intake. The idea here is to formulate an entire day’s meal plan that can hit 100% of all the required nutrients, but only using only whole foods. It is possible to eat healthy and eat only whole foods.
Oatmeal with apples is a good starting point. This can be followed by a yogurt smoothie which could contain berries, flaxseed and honey. Another alternative is a spinach salad had along with carrots, peppers and tomatoes, mixed with garbanzo beans, olive oil, vinegar, and pumpkin seeds. For those who cannot live without any kind of meat, a chicken breast is the healthiest meat to eat, and can be had along with some Brazil nuts. A mix of tuna, sweet potato and brussel sprouts is great for someone trying to eat healthy.
Having said that, sometimes it is very difficult to get all the supplements in our every day lives. Finding out the amount of nutrients in all kinds of food, and then understanding how much of each kind of food is necessary to reach the daily requirements is a difficult thing to do and may not be very practical. Our modern lives do not permit us to luxury of time to be able to do this. For this reason, medicines and supplements can also be very important. There are supplements available for every kind of vitamin and nutrient. When supplements are taken under the guidance of a doctor and a nutritionist, they can help an individual stay healthy and fit.
