Some Natural Aphrodisiacs and Why They Work

The world of aphrodisiacs is an exciting one. For centuries, cultures have used certain herbs and foods to allegedly increase sexual power and enhance sexual pleasure. Many ancient cultures like India and China even have mentions of aphrodisiacs in their medical texts. Many traditions we follow even today are steeped in the lore of aphrodisiacs. On the other hand, there are many people who believe that the aphrodisiacal properties attributed to foods are just mythical and that foods have no power to affect our sexual appetite. So, are aphrodisiacs for real? Do they really work as a libido booster? Read on to find out why some of the aphrodisiacs actually work the way they claim to:

Asparagus: Asparagus is widely known as an aphrodisiac. In fact, until as late as the nineteenth century, prenuptial dinner in France included 3 courses made from asparagus. Asparagus is rich in folic acis among other nutrients and folic acid is crucial for the production of histamines that are required for both male and female orgasm. They are also rich in fiber, potassium and vitamins, all of which add to one’s sexual prowess.

Almonds: Anyone who is familiar with the story of Samson and Delilah know how Delilah was wooed by Samson with almonds. What you may not know is that almond soup was also very popular with novelist Alexander Dumas before an appointment with one of his many mistresses. Almonds are so rich in nutrients that having a handful of almonds can satisfy your daily dietary needs for many nutrients. At the same time, they are also sufficient to produce the desired sexual effect of enhanced sex.

Chocolate: There is no doubt that the creamy texture and delightful taste of chocolate is exciting and sexually stimulating. But, there is reason for chocolate to be a great aphrodisiac. Chocolate induces the brain to produce hormones that make us feel good and happy called serotonin. When these hormones spread through our system, we experience a feeling of well being and happiness and are in the perfect mood for a sexual encounter. Oysters: Oysters have infamously known as the most potent libido booster in the world. Legend has it that Casanova consumed over 50 lie oysters a day to keep up with his sexual exploits. Oysters contain zinc which helps with the production of testosterone and increase the sperm count. This increased virility transforms into sexual excitement and sexual energy. Oysters also have the effect of making the brain produce hormones that increase our sense of well being and joy. They also help one feel relaxed and ready for a sexual encounter.

Figs: Amongst Cleopatra’s arsenal, figs are considered a symbol of fertility in many cultures around the world because of their supposed effect on female libido and orgasm. They are sexually charged not just in their nutrients, but also in their shape and texture which is sexually provocative to females.
