Shopping for your Wardrobe with Wisdom
Fashion | July 24th, 2008

Every material choice, including the clothes you buy, sends a message to the world about who you are. The world responds accordingly. What is your wardrobe saying?
Style matters. Shop with Wisdom.
When I shop, I keep these tips in mind. They support me in making the right purchases. And “right” means: I feel good, I look great and I communicate who I truly am.
- Buy a fashion magazine and tear out what you love. Keep in a file folder and use as a reference.
- Be kind to yourself. Leave that mean little voice at home.
- Wear make up. The lighting in changing rooms is horrendous.
- “Tight isn’t always flattering”. In this month’s Domino Magazine, Cynthia Kling writes about buying one size up. Aahhh, comfort and you look lighter!
- Accentuate the positive. What part of your body do you love? Is it your grey-blue eyes, your long neck (you probably look great in turtlenecks), or your feminine ankles?
- Determine if your skin tone is blue based or yellow based. This changed my life. Find two pieces of fabric: one silver, one gold. Drape each one under your chin and you will know instinctively which works for you. I was shocked to see how great I look in yellow and sea foam
colours. No more black for me! - Ingrid Bergman told her daughter, Isabelle Rossellini, “We can’t afford to be cheap.” It’s better to have one great piece (like a coat) which you adore, that lasts for years.
- Finally, shoulders back, head high, wear your wisdom! Be You!

Re: #2 … That mean little voice LOVES to live at home! I have to kick it out completely. It’s not allowed safe haven anywhere, and it’s always trying to sneak in the doors and windows (and TV screen and magazine pages sometimes). So … “be kind to yourself” – oui. But that little voice? It never really goes away, but I don’t have to let it stay comfortably in my home. It’s a nasty piece of work, that one is.

Great advice! I am going to try the skin tone thing later. I hit Superstore on the way home from Vernon last weekend and there is a crazy sale on Joe summer clothes. Just thought I’d share with a fellow Joe Fresh lover, I got some cute shifts for over pants or a swimsuit for $7. Great summer cottage wear. Hope you are enjoying your holiday. Much love! k

Great tips. Esp like 7 & 8. Quality never goes out of style. And as for #8, a confident posture works wonders on one’s overall look, and attitude as well.

Sometimes I am tempted to gently draw someones shoulders back, and say “stand up, be you, show the world!

Wisdom teeth is a nonsense.
What to me pleasure of what at me in 25-30 years has grown a teeth without which I already easily manage for a long time?
Where they were, when I in a youth teeth opened bottles with beer because it was abruptly? When I clicked a teeth nuts?
And then, why from name “Wisdom teeth” – I that, somehow in another way to chew has learnt? Not how earlier when I was the young fool? Whether business if to years to 30 grew, for example, wisdom fingers! Better, of course, on each hand on the additional index. But on the second big – too it is normal. And then it would be wisdom fingers – because now I precisely know, for what I should seize both hands, to hold strong-strong and never to release. Or from what to wave away – yes, now I know, from what I should wave away very much, sometimes so there is no pair of superfluous fingers on hands that from it to wave away.
Or here, a wisdom eye. It is necessary certainly, to change the passport by 30 years because you on a forehead had one more eye… Well also I represent, as it will be scratched. When it begins to be cut through – hard, yes. But – what pleasure to look in three eyes at that, on what you could not see enough in both in any way… And points cool can be carried – represent, what turn the fashion industry can make!
I ask me to excuse, it is simple a teeth strongly are ill

I couldn't agree more. Whether it is swimwear or a ball room suit, you have to look the part! I definitely agree with accentuating the positive, but only do ONE THING! Too often a woman will have her bust showing and a short skirt at the same time. It's much classier to do one or the other–plus the women at the party will treat you better.
