Getting your life insurance license is an intense process; however, with the right amount of studying and following the steps that are specific to your state pretty much anyone can do it. You’ll need to know the terminology and the product as well as getting the right level of education and testing requirements to show that you know more than just the terms but that you know the product as well.

Insurance Agent and Insurance Broker

It’s necessary for you to know the differences with an insurance agent and an insurance broker. Though the two are similar and sometimes put together as one they aren’t identical.

The agent is one that works for one company and that sells only insurance products for that one company. The insurance broker is not tied down to one company. They are allowed to shop around for quotes for policies with multiple companies in order to get the best possible price for their customers.

Educational Requirements

You’ll want to make sure of the educational and licensing requirements you’ll need to either be an insurance broker or agent. Both will go through the same licensing requirements but just work for different companies when they pass the exam(s).

There could be the requirement for classroom training or you can just do the training online. In some states all you simply need to do is take and pass the test in order to get your license.

Fees and Deadlines

There are some states that just have an open testing policy where all you have to do is come and take your test at anytime during the week via open door or some will require an appointment but there are others that might only offer testing at various times throughout the year.

You’re likely to have to pay ahead of time and should you fail the first time you will be required to pay again.
