Planning a Family Wellness Program

Healing, Health & Wellness, Holistic medicine | December 9th, 2009 1 Comment

These days, everyone is concerned about health. What with the rising cost of medical treatment and lack of medical insurance, more and more people are finding themselves in tough circumstances. Due to this situation, people are tending to their medical problems on an SOS basis – which is, they are consulting their doctors only when they are in a crisis situation. This need-based solution only caters to immediate health problems at the last minute, for a specific condition. But this does not ensure good health for all. At times like this, you need to plan a family wellness program for your near and dear ones.

Wellness as a concept refers to overall, holistic health that takes care of the mind and body as a whole, covering every aspect of your life that affects your work, relationships, physical health, emotional strength and often spiritual wellbeing. So it is more than just treating a specific ailment on a temporary basis. Hence, if you want to ensure that your family is truly ‘well’, you will need to take into account every family members age, schedule, health problems and mental state.

Older members of the family are likely to suffer from conditions such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, cardiac, arthritis and other stress related disorders; while younger members could have allergies, skin disorders, growing pains, low energy issues, and so on. Younger people are also likely to have more emotional problems as they grow and learn to cope with the real world – this in turn affects their overall health.

It may be wise for you to consult a holistic practitioner who can assess the health requirements of your family. A holistic practitioner would consider the effects of the family’s lifestyles on their mental and physical health and work out a regimen that would work for everyone. This would entail looking deep into each individual’s life, the stress and strain they experience and the fallout on their bodies and minds.

A holistic practitioner is likely to suggest a course of treatment which combines various holistic healing practices. Some of these could involve activities that the whole family can take part in. These practices can involve participating in yoga and meditation classes. Or they can train together in Reiki or Pranic healing. Yoga and meditation can be group activities where your entire family can attend yoga and meditation classes, and then continue to practice together. Since both these practices require discipline, practicing in a group often helps to motivate each member, ensuring that they don’t give up easily.

Another way to ensure your family’s wellness is to visit a wellness spa in a group. A wellness spa will offer a number of facilities and services that can cater to your entire family’s needs. Apart from being in the ideal environment for healing, your family will appreciate the fact that there is something for everyone. A spa of this nature caters to all ages, tastes and budgets. So if you want to ensure your family’s wellness, do let them experience a really healing environment with the people closest to them.
