Picking Good Wedding Presents
Some people hate picking out wedding presents. That is one of the reasons that wedding present registries are becoming more and more popular. Not only do you not have to debate over and over about what to get the newly married bride and groom, you can find out what sort of things they need from their registry list.
Although present registries are now the way many bride and grooms opt to go about dealing with wedding presents, it is not required. And, it is not bad etiquette to opt to give a more personal present not on the list or to give money. With the cost of everything having to do with getting married these days, money can, in fact, be a very good present. If you are going to have a present registry, it must be passed along only by word of mouth and not included on the invitations.
With just about everyone today having an internet connection, stores usually have online registry lists that you can access any time of the day or night. They not only have a list of the things need by the newlyweds, they can also tell you if someone else has already chosen to give the bride and groom a certain present. If you wish, you can even print out a copy of the list so that you can study it for a few days before decidingon what present to purchase.
The proper thing to do when invited to a wedding is to send a present even if you are unable to attend the ceremony. The fact that you must send a present does not mean that you need to send an expensive present, especially ifit is not something you can afford. The bride or groom invited you because they wanted you to be there on their special day so take your financial situation into account and don’t do anything you cannot afford. And if you are the ones getting married, every present must be accepted with the same appreciation without regard to cost.
The wedding present does not have to be sent before the wedding but it must not be delayed indefinitely either. Sometimes the bride and groom have a table set up at the reception for presents. If you do use this opportunity to bring your present, remember that the chances are pretty good, your present will not be opened until after the honeymoon is over. The maid of honor or another close friend must be selected to take care of picking up the presents and making sure they make their way to newlyweds.
You may have seen it on TV where a wedding is cancelled and the bride or groom is wondering if they have to return all of the wedding presents or not. The reply is yes, you do. If, for any reason, the wedding is not going to take place, every present must be returned. If however, you do go through with the nuptials, don’t forget to send out thank you notes to everyone who brought a present.
