Pet Life Insurance, Replacement Insurance Should You Lose Your Pet

Pets, Relationships | December 9th, 2009 No comments

A pet life insurance policy is a type of life insurance that is actually a fairly new type that can be for your dog, cat or other types of pets.

The pet life insurance is going to be like that of the human life insurance policy in the fact that it is going to pay a benefit upon the death of your pet. It’s a policy that is especially beneficial for those that have show dogs; however, it is an option for any dog owner and it’s not unreasonable to do so.

The benefit of a pet life insurance policy is going to be around a $15k maximum; however, for an owner who shows their dog and spends a lot of money on things like the grooming, visits to the vet, training and more, it’s well worth it.

The first to come up with the pet life insurance policy was a company named Purrfect Pet. This company and many others offer death benefits that arise from either death from illness or injury. There usually is an age cap that the pet must be 8 years of age or younger.

Just like with a regular life insurance policy you’ll choose your plan and pay the monthly premium. There is the choice of deductibles with the higher being less cost than the lower just like any other policy.

The one nice benefit that comes from a pet insurance plan is that you can combine it with other pet insurance policies like your pet medical insurance policy. If the pet insurance company allows you to combine policies this will usually lead to cheaper premiums known as a multi-policy discount.

When your pet does die you’ll have to contact the company that issued the insurance policy and let them know the circumstances of the death. Though it’s obviously going to be a difficult time you must have everything in order.

After the insurance carrier makes the determination that there was no foul play involved with the death of your pet your benefit check will be issued.
