Personal Budgeting: Budget Planners and Budget Planning Worksheets
Personal budgeting is made far simpler with budget planners and budget planning worksheets. Budget planners are powerful tools for personal budgeting because they let you record and prject your income and expenses. Budget planners are most useful for personal budgeting when you can enter data electronically. Budget planners that do this are able to automatically calculate figures such as net gain or loss after expenses are subtracted from income. However, if you do not want to use a computer for personal budgeting, you can also use budget planning worksheets. Budget planning worksheets are similar to budget planners in that they allow you to enter numbers into a budget spreadsheet. However, budget planning worksheets are often downloaded and printed off. You can then fill them in at your leisure with a pen or pencil.
Budget Planners
There are hundreds of different budget planners out there that can help you with budget planning. But for the most part, all budget planners work the same way. The budget planner will have two main sections, each with their own subsections.
The first section on most budget planners will be income. Under income, you will have boxes to fill in all your sources of income. For example, you will have a spot for wages and tips and also boxes for interest income, gifts and other types of income.
Below that section, budget planners will feature the expenses section. Here, you have boxes for all of your expenses. This includes predictable costs for budget planning such as mortgage and rent as well as variable expenses, such as entertainment, discretionary spending, transportation and groceries.
The power of budget planners is the projection methods. You can fill in your guesses or your limits for spending on your budget planners and then go back and fill in what you actually spent. This is useful for personal budgeting because you can see how much progress you have been making towards your goals. On the other hand, you can also see where you are falling short or overspending. This is one of the best ways to approach personal budgeting.
Budget Planning Worksheets
Budget planning worksheets work in much the same way, except they can be on pen and paper. Budget planners are a bit more free form as well. Budget planning worksheets are good for those that don’t really know where to start. Budget planning worksheets are structured in a step-by-step fashion that results in a similar result as electronic budget planners. Also, as mentioned above, budget planning worksheets can often be printed off and used on paper and pencil. You will not get the powerful built-in budget calculators that a budget planner spreadsheet has, but you will have more security than if you were planning your budget online as you will not have to worry about your hard drive failing or a hacker accessing your sensitive personal financial data.
Budget planners and budget planning worksheets can be a great help when tackling personal budgeting. Browse around on the Internet to find a personal budgeting spreadsheet or worksheet that fits your situation best.
