Part time jobs can come in handy for someone that is working full time and wants to earn some extra income or someone that is in school and needs to make some money. There are some steps that you need to take to assess what types of jobs you should go and apply for and how to go about that.

Self Assessment

You should take count and know both your strengths but also your weaknesses. This is going to help you determine the type of job you’re going to be the best suited for. If you’re used to doing clerical work than you should look into something that is clerical like weekend jobs. If you’re a teacher you could tutor students at night. You’ll need to weight your strengths and your weaknesses with the opportunities that lie before you and make the best possible choice.

Availability

One of the first questions you’re going to be asked is the times that you’re available. You’ll need to know what it is you have going on at your regular job or your schooling and know what job is going to fit you and are your hours of availability going to fit them. You’ll need to make sure that you’re really good about planning your schedule and letting your part time employer know when you’ll need time off and for what.

Salary

Know what type of money you’re looking for. If you know you’re going to need $10 an hour then it wouldn’t be wise to go down to the local McDonalds to look for a job. If you’re looking to supplement your income you need to weigh the amount of money you’re going to make with the time you’re going to have to work.

Connections

One of the best ways you can look to land a part time job is through any connections that you might have. Is there someone that you know that has good standing that could refer you to something? You should ask family, friends, coworkers if they know of anything that is out there. If you ask your base there is a good chance that there is someone that is going to know of something that should be an option for you.

Be resourceful and examine all of your options and opportunities and you’ll find something that is going to fit your needs.
