Outdoor Fitness and Its Benefits

Fitness | December 2nd, 2009

We live in a world were men are seen to be confined either to their work stations or to their rooms. This has a lot of consequences and most of them are not good. The effect that it has on the health and the general fitness levels are there for all of us to see. The health problems that one is faced with today were almost non-existent just a few decades earlier. This has caused a lot of worry for men. They have to put up with obesity and other problems which have short term as well as long term effects. The increasing neglect of the outdoors is one of the basic issues here. The only way in which one can overcome this is to indulge in outdoor fitness.

Among all the types of fitness regimes which are recommended, outdoor fitness is one of the most popular. There are various reasons for this. One of the most important reasons is that it is always better to be outside than inside in a room. This is because of various factors which are affecting us. One important and critical aspect of the outdoors is the amount of fresh air that one is getting. The most popular and the most beneficial forms of exercise known to man is walking. Walking can be done indoors as well as outdoors. But walking outdoors is a much better option than indoors. This is because there is a lot of exchange of fresh air happening when one steps out. This has a direct impact on the metabolism. It is understood and proven by science that walking or for that matter any activity which is done outdoors has a larger and more positive impact than when it is done indoors. A treadmill is the preferred option to walking in the outdoors.

This is a scientifically manufactured piece of equipment which is designed to allow us to walk without going anywhere. This is a good thing in some ways. One can do the necessary amount of walking without having to leave the comfortable environment of the house. But there is a down side to the treadmill too.  The body will not come across the undulations and the various factors which it is exposed to while outside. This has a very positive impact on the muscles as well as the mind. The environment we live is active and alive. The body is able to receive this stimulus and get a lot of positive energy out of it. This will have a positive impact on the metabolism. The body will become more active and healthy.

A work out is not complete without stretching and taking in the cool calm morning air. This air is very good for the body and helps in rejuvenating it. If this same process is done in the confines of a room, the physical effect will be just of the stretching and not of the environment. This is the reason it is always suggested to work out in the open.
