This also leads to strong bones, and offers protection against a wide range of medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, stroke and hypertension. Exercising also triggers endorphins, which improve mood and enforce positive feelings. Regular workouts also help to reduce our appetite.
The notion of food as a medicine is not a new one. There are some traditional dietary treatments for quite a few different types of diseases. Healthy and nutritious eating has now become a very important part of disease prevention. Most of the health clinics and doctors provide a healthy diet advice to try and reduce the risk of ill-health and age-related health problems, along with obesity and type 2 diabetes. Encouraging women to try and increase folate-intake both, before and after conception to prevent spina bifida in the unborn child is one of the examples of how diet can prevent disease.
Apart from main nutrients, which are the essential fatty acids and the proteins, healthy substances in some food include: micronutrients like vitamins and minerals, dietary fibers and plant chemicals which are known as “phytochemicals”.
