As the name implies, these fats are essential. They cannot be made by the body and the only way they can be got by the body is if they have been eaten in some form of food. The best and largest sources are oily fish, nuts and seeds and their oils.
If fish is eaten infrequently and nuts and seeds are also not eaten because of fears of gaining weight, then the body is deprived of these very essential fats. All nutrition tips suggest including essential fats in regular diet. Consuming oils which are very refined and heated, bleached and hydrogenated, destroys the essential fatty acids. These fats are without any vitamins because of the heat used in the processing which destroys them. The lack of vital fatty acids leads to depression, hormonal problems and eczema.
Balanced nutrition suggests eliminating sugar, coffee, tea, alcohol, wheat and dairy. Processed foods, precooked meals, fast food, and junk food should be reduced or preferably, eliminated. A high quality diet of high fibre, adequate protein and essential fatty acids can make a big difference to blood sugar levels
