With so many different options to choose from picking the right wine club can be a daunting task; however there are some things that you should look for when deciding and then picking a wine club for yourself or as a gift.

Longevity

You’re going to want to find a club that has proof through longevity. With a club that has been around for a long time is going to have a much more established and proven long-term relationships with both their consumer base and a lot of the wineries. With those established relationships they will often get the first choices in their wine selections for their clubs. This will help you to be assured that the gift recipient or you will be a very good one.

Positive Track Record

With the growing popularity and more and more trying out wine with the health benefits, etc… there is the emergence of more and more wine clubs. With this increase there are so many more companies that are vying for the same boutique wines; however, there is short supply.

The problem with a lot of the newer companies is that with the limited supply they are likely having to go to either unproven or wineries that have a lesser quality of wine than the ones that have the long-term and established relationships with the better wineries with limited supplies of high quality wines. The unfortunate fact is there is only so much to go around.

Emphasis on Quality

Pure and simple, the club should not only emphasize quality with their product but they should also back it up with evidence. There are a lot of companies that talk but not a lot that can “walk the walk.” As there is no way to tailor the wines to each and every person the company you choose should be looking to the overall whole.

Ability to Re-Order

Make sure when you’re gifting this you’ll want to make sure that you can the recipient is going to be able to reorder. You also need to make sure that they are going to have enough of your favorite wines for them to provide you with more of your favorites and make the cost and the experience worth it.

The one thing with the wine club is that you or your gift recipient is going to be able to drink and try out some wines that aren’t available in your area. You’re going to be able to find a lot of new favorites of wines that you might not have tried before. Sometimes some of the wines that come with the gift baskets are normally just available at the wineries only; however, they are made available to certain wine gift clubs. Usually this is simply either because of relationships that have been built and/or the ability for them to be able to buy in bulk.

Wine Education

One of the most important things is for them not to only provide you or your friend a great wine also an important aspect is some wine education as well. This is a great part of the experience of the wine. It should talk about the:

  • Wine itself
  • Grapes
  • History
  • Winery

If the person that is getting the wine chooses to want it and use it, it should be available to them.

Gift Personalization

When gifting you should be able to make some personalization to make sure you meet the wants and wishes of the recipient. This should include the:

  • Types of wines
  • The price points
  • Quantity shipped
  • Shipping intervals

The best part about this experience for yourself or your gift recipient is that this is a way to find out about the best wines the world has to offer without even leaving the home.
