Profession: yoga teacher, writer

Lindsey’s first passion is yoga—and sharing its practical, easy, effective tools and techniques for living a healthier, happier life. Writing comes a close second. She teaches at Semperviva Yoga in Vancouver B.C., does private sessions, and blogs about how to bring the bonuses of yoga into daily life at joyyoga.blogspot.com.

How did you you arrive at your Style Statement?

I was lucky enough to score an assignment writing about Carrie & Danielle. As part of my research, I had a Style Statement session with Carrie. She rocked my world—literally—asking questions that shook my foundation. And out popped the truth.

What does your Style Statement mean to you? How do you interpret your first and second words?

Tailored: Custom-fit, made-for-me, or someone else. Just right.
Flow: Ease. Effortlessness. Being in the moment.

How has your Style Statement been useful to you?

First, it gave me the courage to change my life: new single status, new home, new job. Most importantly, I signed up for yoga teacher training. I began living a life I love to live. Now, my Style Statement is a benchmark I stand on to survey what’s before me, choosing the path that best reflects my truest self.

Where in the world have you, or do you, feel most at home – and why? What kinds of things do you collect/surround yourself with – and why?

The yoga studio is my home away from home. I jive with calm, peaceful open spaces; my soul blooms. Other than flowers—fresh or captured in artwork—I collect yoga books. They’re daily reminders of the tools I’ve learned and am learning that help me live my happiest, healthiest life.

What inspires you? How do you know when you’re inspired?

Birds singing. Women who go against the grain. People who aren’t afraid to be authentic. The balding man who strolls through my neighbourhood, singing opera at the top of his lungs. I know because my heart leaps to my face and plasters a smile there; I feel a buzz in my cells; my skin tingles.

If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Yoga pants; yoga top; flip flops; hoodie; pony tail. I also love a perfectly tailored, flowy shirt-dress.

What do you like to be noticed and appreciated for? What kind of friend are you?

Standing to the side, just being there. I’m a rah-rah friend, I think: giving much love to my lovelies when they take a step up, or fall down. Lucky for me, they do the same.

How do you play?

Yoga all the way. There’s nothing like a flowing, challenging, in-the-moment hour spent on my mat, just doing what I need and want to do. Riding my cruiser bicycle with my boyfriend on his is right up there, too.

3.) Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

NOT a romance novel—this book will fan the flames of any woman with the desire to travel and be independent, in France.
