Life Insurance Tips, Some Important Tips To Help You Purchase Your Policy

Money, Wellness | December 10th, 2009

If you’re looking for life insurance but aren’t really sure about what it really is and what it has to offer some of the following life insurance tips will be very helpful to you. Even if you’re familiar with life insurance there might be some things you didn’t think about before.

There is no end all be all of perfection when it comes to life insurance but it is possible to get a good play for your money if you think about it and compare before you purchase one.

Don’t Wait

Insurance companies will round up if you’re 32 they will round up to 33, so forth. As the older you get the more your life insurance premium is going to go up with it so it’s always wise to purchase as early as possible and no later than your late 20’s if you’re still at that age. It will lock you up at a much better rate.

Don’t Choose Through Reviews or Ratings

You should never pick an insurance company or an insurance policy purely off of a user review or rating. The reason that this isn’t a good idea as what is good for one isn’t going to be good for everyone as all circumstances are different. Even the “highest rated” insurance policy could likely not be good enough to fit your needs.

It’s important that you always read the full policy and make sure that you get clarification on anything you’re confused with. Never ever make a rash decision when purchasing a life insurance policy or purchase a policy because you see a nifty ad on the television. You should only go with an insurance policy when you are 100% convinced that it is going to be the right one for yourself and the family that you would leave behind.

Do Your Homework

Before you meet with either an insurance broker (agent) or talk to an insurance company you should try to get some information before you make your purchase. You should have some general knowledge on the insurance types and comparing coverage, etc… When you do call never feel like you have to purchase the policy immediately, take your time and if your sales agent is too pushy go somewhere else.

Pay Annually If Possible

If your able to financially and even if you’re not you should try to plan for in the future to pay your premium annually. There is actually a dollar amount that is placed on top of the insurance premium. You can sometimes save upwards of 20%.

Health Issues

If you’re a smoker you’re going to pay more and if you do smoke don’t try to hide it. You will find that you’re paying about 2-3x more on the normal rates as non-smokers. If you have high blood pressure or bad cholesterol and get your issues resolved and go to the doctor. Getting things taken care of is to your benefit as the insurance companies don’t like things left unattended.

When you go to take your life insurance medical exam make sure that you follow this advice, don’t drink any caffeine or do any exercise before you go as this is something that can really throw your lab results off and with this happening can really cost you in terms of your life insurance premium.
