Life Insurance Physical, Preparing For Your Medical Exam

Health & Wellness | December 13th, 2009

Life insurance physicals are needed for any type of insurance policy, with limited exceptions. The only exceptions are really for only low paying insurance policies.

When you get into the larger payout and long term policies they are going to require a physical in order to assess your condition of course but more so to assess what type of premium they are going to need to charge. The poorer your health or lifestyle choices the more you’re going to pay in premium and if it’s too bad get life insurance denials. You’ll also be asked a list of questions, it’s important to be very open and honest about everything that you’re asked.

Preparation

When it comes to your life insurance physical it’s something that’s going to be done by someone that’s chosen by the insurance company who will come to either your home or your office. They pick this person so they are able to get an accurate assessment of your health.

You’re going to be talking to the agent or the person that does your testing for any additional testing that could be required because of your age, the policy that you want as well as any pre-existing conditions that you might have.

In order to achieve good results on your testing the following list will help you:

  • Make sure to schedule in advance, try for at least one week. You will schedule this through your insurance broker/agent
  • For the one week prior to your testing you should keep a healthy diet. Your diet should be low in sugars, salts as well as alcohol. With alcohol you should abstain from having any for at least three days before the testing if not the entire week
  • Also avoid any foods, medications or any other products that contain stimulants, specifically things like caffeine, decongestant drugs and others for at least 24 hours before and all the way up to your test. If you don’t do this your blood pressure could register as elevated
  • No strenuous exercise, save it for after your testing and avoid it for 24 hours. By doing this you’re able to keep any artificially elevated protein levels from spiking in your urine
  • You should fast and not drink another other than water for 8-10 hours prior to your testing in order for your blood and fat levels to be accurately tested
  • Try to relax and make sure that you get a good night’s sleep. Just like with any type of testing you want to make sure you’re not tired when you’re taking it

Best of all like the prior advice it’s best to just try and relax. It’s painless and not as bad as our minds tend to make things sometimes. Just be open and honest and you’ll make it through just fine.
