Life Insurance Careers, Getting Off On The Right Foot
A life insurance career in sales is something that can help ensure that you and your family are able to live comfortably both in your working lives and in your retirement.
The hardest part for most people is simply becoming a life insurance sales agent; however, with some of the simple advice laid out below you’ll be able to make sure that you are setup for success.
The following are 4 simple steps to get you off on the right foot:
- Look at the pre-licensing requirements and make sure that you register and complete them all. This isn’t something that you can’t do. If you’re employed by an insurance company they will usually use the first weeks of training to help you before you go for your testing. If you’re not sure where to go contact your local insurance commissioner for information
- Once you’re through with step one you’re ready to take your exam. You’ll be able to locate the locations through the insurance commissioner’s office for your state or the company you are working for will let you know. You should make sure you take some time to study for the testing and also make sure you take it as soon as possible after your classes and studying so you have it fresh in your mind
- If you don’t have a job already pick out some insurance companies to work with. Once you’ve found the one that you’d like to work for then you should apply and start to think about the agreements that you’ll want to come to before your interview and any contract signing
- You’ll begin by selling fixed insurance products. Before you get into variable life insurance products you’ll need to obtain what’s called an FINRA license, or a Series 6 license, which allows you to sell mutual funds, annuity products, variable life insurance as well as retirement plans. This license is a limited securities license
Though it takes a lot of studying and time it’s something that is well worth it in terms of the type of money that you can make and the people that you can help.
