Yoga is an ancient practice which is now seeing a sharp increase in the number of followers in the West. As you learn it you will see the improvement in your flexibility, strength and overall health. If you research a little on the subject or ask an expert, there are specific poses to treat different problems of the body and the mind. Yoga has made use of the simplest act of breathing to help the body recover. Breathing techniques will be of utmost importance while teaching yoga and yoga will have a better effect when this is done right.

Yoga has a lot of different styles within the practice. Hatha, ashtanga, Iyengar, Kundalini, Power yoga, etc. are names you have probably heard about. They differ from one another in a few ways and depending on your physical needs as well as spiritual set up, you can decide which one you wish to follow. Nowadays we can find yoga classes in almost every corner so finding a good class will not be a problem at all. If you have heard of a good instructor, you can always use directories to look him/her up. Internet is another great source to find the right place.

Ashtanga yoga involves vinyasa and tristhana. Vinyasa has breathing and movements whereas tristhana is where the posture, breathing and the mind come together. Vinyasa in ashtanga yoga aims are cleaning ones body. As you perform the poses and breath along with it, you will warm the body up which will heat the blood, leading to better circulation. The sweat will remove toxins from your body and this will help remove disease from your organs too. There is also dristi which is the point you focus on to concentrate.

Hatha yoga classes will help you discipline your mind and were used by sages to prepare themselves for long periods of continuous meditation. This produces a balance in the body and the mind of an individual and results in a sense of power. It is not only about the poses and breathing but includes moral disciplines as well. Hatha yoga classes can help you over come a lot of problems from constipation to cancer. This is a relatively slow yoga and can be a little too meditative for those who are looking for a low intensity workout.

A lot of people find more satisfaction in learning yoga by themselves in the comfort of their homes. DVDs and online videos are usually the source of their knowledge. Most of these DVDs are very detailed and following it is quite simple. Books used to be very popular source for self instruction but are now almost replaced by visual learning tools. All lifestyle channels usually have programs about yoga which helps educate viewers on the benefits and one can practice it as it is being shown. As a lot of yoga teaching schools have opened there are a lot of instructors who are willing to give private lessons for a reasonable price.
