Lasik Vision Improvement

Healing, Health & Wellness, Vision correction | January 18th, 2010 No comments

Anybody who has been wearing glasses or even contact lenses over a long period of time will tell you that even though they are better compared to having blurry vision, it is still a hassle. Wearing and removing contact lenses, glasses rubbing at places on your nose, misplacing your glasses, etc. can be very irritating. Problems with vision are generally due to issues with one’s cornea. Because of this, light is no longer focused the right way on one’s retina, which is present at the back of one’s eye. Depending on whether the point of focus is in front of or behind your retina, you will develop near or far sightedness. Spectacle lenses will correct this problem by modifying the light when it enters the eyes. Lasik, eye surgery is a modern procedure. The human eye is very sensitive as well as delicate. But lasik is a safe procedure that has helped a lot of people in getting near perfect vision and to be able to give up their contacts and glasses forever.

Lasik is the widely preferred type of refractive eye surgery. Its popularity is because of the very little pain involved as well as the low levels of discomfort experienced afterward. Normal vision is usually achieved within a day or two. As it is an out-patient surgery, lasik is performed with the use of simple and basic eye drop anesthesia. A circular flap that is very thin is cut in your cornea using an instrument called microketatome . The flap will then be pulled back and after this an excimer laser begins to burn away a little tissue of the cornea and reshapes it. A well shaped cornea can properly focus light onto the retina, like it is intended to. The flap will then be replaced and a bandage is applied. Pain killers are given for a couple of days. Lasik surgery also has the capability to correct astigmatism. A few people have procedures done on both eyes on a single day. Other people choose to have a gap of a week or two between surgeries for each eye.

A vast majority of Lasik patients will no longer need to use glasses or contact lenses to see long distances after undergoing laser treatment. Aall patients who have undergone Lasik correction see much better with no glasses after this procedure. Patients who need higher amounts of vision correction generally have less accurate correction results. Accurate results are seen in people who require less correction. The results can be improved further upon using a second laser treatment.

The quality of the patient’s vision post laser vision correction surgery is always better compared to vision using contact lenses and glasses. Patients experience less glare, than they had using contact lenses. The inconvenience of contact lenses will be removed. Side vision is not blocked like with glasses, and there will no longer be any problem of wet, dirty or scratched glasses.

Results are impressive, but it is impossible to predict the precise nature of refractive eye surgery. No guarantees can be made about the outcome of any laser vision correction because each person responds in a different way. It is better to avoid any doctor that promises a specific result, because that is not possible in laser vision correction surgery.
