If you believed you were enough, what would you do differently?

Q&A | August 1st, 2008 No comments

If you had nothing to prove, no one to impress, felt sufficiently sufficient, brimming with wholeness…

Today’s beautiful inquiry comes from L’Tanya Durante, Editor of Black Purl Magazine, who felt inspired to suggest a question for all of us. But of course…her Style Statement is Elemental Sacred. “Elemental” loves to get to the heart of the matter.

Carrie says: I would not edit before I spoke the truth. I would not care what certain people thought. I would live like I dance – freer & wilder.

Danielle says:If I really let this question drill into my psyche, I think…maybe I wouldn’t wear make-up; I would bust out with my creative a-ha’s more often; I’d choose comfortable shoes over kick-ass. I’d get on stage at a poetry slam. (Now that’s a crazy dichotemy – Carrie and I ROCK as public speakers – give me a packed colosseum anyday. But, I wouldn’t dare read my prose to even a small group of friendly, drunk poets. Nuh-uh.)

L’Tanya says: If I had known that I was smart enough, thin enough, interesting enough, fun enough, enough w-o-m-a-n, I would have chosen to date men who would treat me well. If I truly believed that I was enough, even in this body, I would choose clothes that reflect my personality rather than my fears – big, bold, juicy colors instead of black. This realization could be the first step in treating my body with more respect — this body.
