How to display a collection of treasures: C&D’s Studio

I love our white studio…full of treasures. Kid’s art, torn magazine covers, worn books, tea pots. I really need to feel inspired in my work space, to feel beauty in my surroundings so I create vignettes. They’re like little paintings.
How to display a collection of treasures?
- Hunt for what inspires you.
- Where do you want to honor those treasures? A window sill, a fireplace mantle, on a table. A lip on this wall is a perfect spot to have a revolving art show.
- Like is attracted to like: group similar shapes & colors. Above I found an old metal printing block and placed it next to two black & white postcards (cheap chic) beside a book cover which was a special gift from Danielle. Notice how lovely it is with it’s torn edge and striped fabric swatch (I love stripes!)
- I am into quick and easy, found objects, old cards. This is not about money, this is about knowing what you love and learning to see.
- How to see: When beauty speaks to you, look and ask why? Why does this work? Why do I feel wonderful in my friends living room.
Seeing is a muscle, it needs training. Asking why you feel beauty is the first step.
