Healing, Health & Wellness, Yoga | December 18th, 2009 No comments

As more and more studies are being published extolling the benefits of yoga practice, more and more people around the world are getting attracted to it. There is no wonder that the fitness and health industry is also taking notice and more and more health clubs and gyms are beginning to offer yoga classes. Apart from that, there are a number of yoga centers and workshops opening teaching different styles of yoga to diverse groups of people. If you too are interested in learning and practicing yoga, welcome to the yoga world. But, the first question you may want to address is how to choose a yoga center that is right for you. Here are some tips to help you make the decision.

Location:

This is perhaps one of the first things to consider when you are considering joining one of the many yoga centers available. If the yoga center is on your way to work or home, it is far more likely that you will stop on the way for a yoga lesson than if you have a detour. Even when your day has been hectic, you will be able to stop at a yoga center if it is on your way home, but you are unlikely to travel extra miles just to go to a yoga class after a long and tiring day. That is why, if you are interested in keeping up with your yoga practice, it is important that you find a yoga center that is on your regular travel route.

Yoga Instructor:

Who you learn yoga from is a great determinant in how much benefit you derive from your yoga practice. For this reason, it is important that you ensure that your yoga instructor is both qualified and well trained in teaching yoga. The best way to find this is by checking is your yoga instructor is listed with Yoga Alliance, an accreditation body for yoga professionals worldwide. Accreditation from Yoga Alliance is an assurance that the instructor has a minimum level of training in yoga philosophy, human anatomy and in teaching yoga.

Options:

There are many yoga classes that offer a variety of options. For instance, they also offer yoga for kids or for teens or for seniors. Some even offer specialized yoga classes for arthritic patients or people with high blood pressure. If you fall into any one of these categories, it would be great to join a yoga class that is tailor made for your needs. On the other hand, if a family member or friend falls into any one of the categories, you could become attend the same yoga classes and travel together. Also, some yoga classes also offer different styles of yoga under the same roof. So, you can try hatha yoga in one class and power yoga in another and choose a style of yoga that is most suitable for you.
