How to Avoid Running Injuries

Are you trying to avoid running injuries? Who isn’t, right? Runners debate whether they should run through the pain or run with injuries. Avoiding running injuries is vitally important for your training success. Take these necessary steps to avoid injuries if you want to run successfully.
Stretch
To effectively avoid running injuries, make sure that you stretch every day. Some runners who avoid injury spend up to 20 minutes each day stretching and doing other flexibility exercises. Some areas on the body that are easily prone to injury include the hamstrings, Achilles tendons, and calf muscles. Marathon runners especially need to stretch for long periods of time. The longer you run, the more stretching you should do.
Shoes
Make sure you wear shoes that fit your running style. Find a shoe that fits your exercise pattern, and stick with it. The more you switch up the running shoes you wear, the more likely you are to suffer an injury. Serious runners should talk to their doctors or foot-care specialists before investing a lot of money in running shoes.
That leads to another issue: be willing to spend a lot of money. Your feet are very important, to say the least. If you’re like me, it’s tempting to buy cheap shoes. As the saying goes, you’ll probably get what you pay for. If you realize how important your feet are, you have to be willing to spend some money. If you have orthotics, use them. Many serious runners have orthotics but only use them when running. To avoid injury, try wearing your orthotics whenever you put on footwear.
Walk
Before and after running, walk. A brief walk before running will help warm up your muscles to the idea of long-distance running. Running right after sitting down for several minutes or hours can be shocking to your legs. A brisk walk after intense running can help cool down your muscles and prepare them for stretching.
If you’re prone to injury, try running on trails or grass. Hard surfaces, like sidewalks and roads, can put a lot of strain on your legs. Besides, running on trails and woody areas is more fun than running in the city.
To keep your running effective and healthy, remember these important steps to avoid injury. Your body will thank you!
