Homeowners Insurance

By getting homeowners insurance you’re protecting many things in case of a loss; such as:

  • Your home
  • Your family
  • Your belongings
  • Your valuables

There are many types of loss causes that are covered under a homeowner’s insurance policy; like:

  • Vandalism
  • Accidents
  • Theft
  • Natural disasters

The policy has the purpose of either replacing or rebuilding your property when it gets damaged. It can be anything from a thief breaking in and stealing the TV from your living room to massive wind damage leading to your roof needing redone.

The one thing some people don’t realize is that it doesn’t just cover the home but will provide a certain amount of extension to shield you from liability from incidents caused by your pet if it digs up a neighbor’s tree to your child breaking a window with a baseball.

Specific Coverage Aspects

One of the most common aspects that most everyone are familiar with is the part of the policy that talks about the perils that are covered when damage is inflicted upon the contents of your home or even the house itself.

When it comes to coverage, while a lot of policies are alike, there are going to be differences with every policy. Don’t assume that your policy is the same or going to be the same as your friends or family members. You need to make sure that you consult with your insurance agent and make sure you talk about what is and isn’t going to be covered under your policy.

There are some policies that are going to cover all of the following:

  • Fire
  • Mudslide
  • Flood
  • Hail
  • Hurricane
  • Tornado
  • Earthquake
  • Acts of God

While this is the case with some insurance policies there are going to be some that will exclude certain coverage. For instance, if you live in a flood prone area you might have flooding excluded from your policy. Other types of policies are going to only cover perils that are named, aptly called the named perils. Depending on the limits and constraints of your insurance policy there may or may not be complete coverage.

You need to make sure that your coverage and coverage limits are suited to your needs. When it comes to your valuable items you’re going to want to make sure that you purchase the proper limits to make sure that you’re covered as to what your items are actually worth. Planning ahead will save you a lot of problems should something happen and also allow you ways of increasing your coverage amount.

With other items and the house itself, should something happen; such as, a natural disaster it works to rebuild your home to what it was before the disaster took place. It not only includes all of the basics like the plumbing, roofing, flooring etc… but also to your furniture, paint, trees, and others.

Be sure to talk to your insurance agent to find out what is and isn’t covered and make sure that you discuss any specific needs or concerns that you may have.

Liability Coverage

Sometimes one of the most important items in your homeowner’s coverage is that of liability. Liability is something that provides you from anything from damages, court costs and any other types of expenses that come from accidents that are caused either by a member of your family or a pet.

Your liability coverage will also protect you from instances that occur on your proper; such as, neighbor is going out of your house and trips in a crack in your steps and falls and breaks their arm you would be covered.
