High Risk Life Insurance, Finding Insurability

Insurance, Life, Wealth | December 3rd, 2009 No comments

High risk life insurance is something that is out there for ones that are just like it sounds like, who are at high risk.

If you’re in a high risk group it’s likely that you’ve been told you’re not going to be able to get any life insurance; such as, if you have had a bypass or another type of condition that makes you an adverse risk to insure. The most important thing is that you shouldn’t take no for an answer.

What you’ll first want to do is check out any current policy that you have and check for something that is called a guaranteed insurability rider. What this rider means is that it you have the right to buy additional coverage in your policy at the current rate that you’re paying regardless of your “risk” circumstances. There is also the possibility of a group insurance plan which almost always will not call for a medical exam.

If either of these options does not apply for you there is the possibility that you might qualify for something called impaired risk insurance. You do have options.

Business that specialize in high risk policies:

  • CAN – 800/437-8854
  • Mutual of Omaha – 402-342-7600
  • Guarantee Trust Life Insurance 800/592-7933 (Particularly for those that have HIV)

Impaired risk policies:

  • Impaired Risk Specialists 888/898-3279
  • Underwriting Specialists 800-652-5700

Lastly, you can look to an agent that has the experience with the high risk policies and they will be able to shop you around to an assortment of companies. There are many agents that don’t know about the insured risk policies, or are bound to companies that won’t write them.

You should look into working with more than one agent to see which will be able to get you the better price. You’re not going to be able to negotiate price as underwriters are going to be unyielding on the price, especially with this type of policy.
