Helpful Ideas to Help Create a Sustainable Home
Greening up, or going green if you like, has proven to be a very popular alternative for many households today. This is because in addition to being eco-friendly, greening up has proven to save a lot of money as you will significantly cut back on costly things such as electricity, water and even costly household items. Creating a sustainable home is as easy as ABC, as long as you ensure that everything you use is eco-friendly.
However, at first, changing and embracing a green lifestyle may appear a little bit intimidating which is OK. However, with a little knowledge on the things thought to be truly green, you will be surprised to find out that it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to lead a green lifestyle.
The first place that many homes today change in their effort to green up is using energy star appliances. Energy star appliances have really proven to reduce the cost of electricity and luckily, many brands today have energy star appliances in the market. It is therefore upon you to ensure you buy a truly energy star appliance, which will bear an energy star label on it.
Eco-friendly homes can equally be created by growing your own garden of vegetables and doing the mulching and composting right at your home. This results to a sustainable, clean green environment conducive for human living. Another step you can take is to use natural household item cleansers such as cleaning the glass using an old newspaper and vinegar or using baking soda in place of scouring powder.
Thirdly, get rid of every aerosol spray present in your home, but ensure you dispose the sprays in a sustainable way. Air fresheners, hair spray, and cleaning products are all found in pump sprays which reduce on the CFC’s that are released to the environment. Eco-friendly homes do not use fast foods, at least not as regular as normal homes. This is because many fast food products are wrapped, boxed, and then bagged which needless to mention waste paper products and worse still, the moment you are done the paper products will end on the garbage which of course degrades the environment.
Cycling or walking is another way that not only benefits the environment but also benefits you. Sometimes it is good and healthy to car pool so that you can exercise while at the same time reduce pollution. When you look around your house, you truly will find a way to be more eco-friendly as many items can be recycled or re-used, hence reducing on the waste.
Fruit rinds, egg shells, and coffee ground are superb for compost, old pieces of clothing can make very ideal cleaning rags, it is possible to flip paper used on one side and use the other side as a note pad, and you can reuse paper bags and plastic bags. Simply put, creating a green environment is only limited by your own creativity and imagination.
