Who says snacks have to be oily and fattening? There are so many healthy snacks for you to munch on and still enjoy. These days, with most people wanting to be fit and healthy, manufacturers of food products have gone all out to offer a range of snacks that are fun and nutritious. You can indulge yourself when ever you get an attack of the munchies by choosing from a plethora of goodies without feeling guilty.

Even if you are a die hard fan of potato crisps, you can opt for one’s that are roasted and low in calories. In addition to crisps, you can choose from dry, roasted sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and a variety of nuts. Cashew nuts and walnuts tend to have more calories. Since some nuts are higher in calories than others, if you stick to roasted peanuts or almonds, you are safe enough. Raisins are also a healthy option to nibble on.

Almonds are high in Vitamins E, B17, Calcium, Monounsaturated fats, Pytochemicals, Proteins and other nutrients like zinc, potassium, magnesium, iron and fiber. Almonds not only help you to lose and maintain your weight, but are also said to lower bad cholesterol levels and prevent heart diseases. And since almonds are high in calcium, they are a great alternative for people who are lactose intolerant and cannot consume milk and other dairy products.

The high levels of protein found in almonds also make them a great snack for people who are into physical fitness and are very active. It helps maintain high energy levels without adding any fats to their diets. The nutrients present in almonds ensure that you meet your daily nutritional requirements with ease. Almonds are an ideal choice for people who are vegetarian and cannot meet their protein requirement through eating meats. Diabetics too are said to benefit from eating almonds.

An amazing feature of the humble almond is that it has traditionally been used for treating many diseases. Almonds have been used as a remedy for the treatment of inflammations in traditional Chinese medicine. They have also been used in balms and tonics. Traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine recommends the use of almonds to nourish the brain. They are said to strengthen the mind and develop self control, calming your mind and nerves and relaxing you.

However, it is important to note that the healthiest way to eat any nut is when it is roasted. Fried or batter fried nuts are high in calories and fat. It is also important not to go overboard when you eat nuts, by consuming large quantities. Eat nuts in moderation combined with small amounts of raisins. They make very effective snacks in between meals in small quantities and will help build energy to keep you going on hectic days.

In addition to nuts, consume fresh fruits through the day when you feel like a snack. If you are in too much of a rush to eat a full meal just eat a combination of fruits and nuts as a healthy, filling snack.
