Getting to Your Creative Edge: Ask C&D
Hi Ladies,
My Lifestyle Map is completed and once I reached Part 3 of the [||!prliignore1||||!prliignore0||||!prliignore2||] book I even wrote the words, “The envelope please…” because I was so excited knowing I was about to reveal a winner. Having gone through all the steps I came up with: TAILORED COMPOSITION.
While I think it sounds really, really cool and the tailored part is totally on the money, I can’t stop focusing on “composition.” My strengths do include, collecting, categorizing, arranging, editing, and documenting. I love the idea of bringing many parts together to make a whole (that’s the reason I don’t wear “outfits” but coordinating my clothing is still very important to me and I love making soups and salads b/c you can mix many ingredients to come up with one delicious flavor). Maybe it’s just that it sounds so long and as Tailored I like simplicity. But my other choices were just as long I guess: Tailored Collection, Tailored Assortment, Tailored Creativity. That’s probably my problem. One statement is not enough. I’m that person that can’t have just one of something. That’s why I collect and compose because I’m trying to create a one unit from an assortment. E Pluribus Unum! That’s me. After all of the “define myself for myself” talk I’m still waiting for someone to give me the answer (plus Tailored Composed just doesn’t flow…does it, hmmm maybe?). Nevertheless I am empowered in spite of not having settled on a choice and I am forever grateful for this fantastic, amazing, wonderful, exciting discovery. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dearest Tailored in Missouri,
Thank you! My intuitive hit with some of the Style Statements that you’re considering, Tailored Composition, Tailored Assortment, Tailored Collection…is that they feel, well overly Tailored…controlled.
Sooner or later, a person is going to run into their own dichotomies and contradictions – that is part of being whole. We refer to it as creative tension – and we think it’s divine, imperative actually. So what are your contradictions?I’ll use myself as an example. My Style Statement is Sacred Dramatic. Sacred = quiet…ommm….introverted…muted…meditative. Dramatic = Rock ‘em sock ‘em…pay attention…impulse. I’m not say, Sacred Divine. Or Sacred Genuine. Neither of those combinations would pull me forward to express myself fully. Neither holds contrast or on-the-edgeness. Dramatic reminds me to stick my neck out and wear some color once and a while.
So, what would pull you forward? What are you craving? What do you want to be appreciated for? What requires courage? What’s your choice accessory? What do you know that you need to do?
It’s okay if your second word feels deeply true but somewhat out of reach. It’s okay if it surprises you. A-ha’s are just that – surprising. Your Style Statement is an affirmation AND an invitation.
How it sounds is important, for sure. But alliteration is last on the list. And what anyone else thinks of your Style Statement is most certainly at the bottom of the list.
My sense is that your Tailored-ness needs a foil. She needs a just slightly wild or boisterous sister to give her some spice. Like, a Creative sister, perhaps. (Or whatever “creative” represents for you.) She’s within you already, like a seed.
Let me know what you Tailor for yourself!
With Love,
Danielle
