Fruit Wines
About
There are a lot of wines that people will consider to be a fruit wine. The reason why the wines are given this name is due to the ingredients that are put in them as they contain fruit rather than grapes. Most often they are going to have a similar name to the fruit type that was used. Two of the best examples are going to be an apple wine or a plum wine.
The misconception with this is a fruit wine isn’t technically a wine as a wine is something that is specific to something being made with grapes. In order to eliminate the confusion the word of the fruit is always placed in front of the word wine.
There are also many people that will make their own fruit wines and can do so by using anything that is adequately sweet. If you are doing this you should also use a little bit of table sugar or even honey so you can get the appropriate quantity of sucrose in your fruit wine.
There are a lot of varieties when it comes to the fruits used to make fruit wines. The ones that will make the best wines though are going to be the following:
- Plums
- Blackberries
- Peaches
- Pomegranates
- Elderberries
- Blackcurrants
The reason for these is that they are going to be the wines that are most going to resemble a grape wine.
Consumption
When it comes to the fruit wines you’re going to want to consume them within a year of production. Unlike grape wines a fruit wine doesn’t get better with age. The reason for this is with the fermentation process. They won’t ferment like a grape wine and will need other chemicals added which will only last for right about a year.
