Name Beautiful Things.

Poet and theologian John O’Donohue wrote:

“The human soul is hugnry for beauty; we seek it everywhere – in landscape, music, art, clothes, furniture, gardening, companionship, love, religion, an din ourselves. Beauty is the true priestess of individuation. But our times are dominated by anxiety and by what is vulgar, coarse, and artificial. Were Beauty to awaken in the fields of politics, religion, planning, discourse, and seeing, our world would heal and fresh wells of hope would refresh us.

Beauty is defined in the dictionary as: “the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind.”

Name beautiful things to acknowledge them.

  1. Notice three things or people in your life that give you “intense pleasure or deep satisfaction”.
  2. What is beautiful to you? Is it taking a bath, the sound of your friend’s voice, or a solution you thought of at work?
  3. Use the word “beautiful” liberally. Name your pleasing experiences and things around you as beautiful, even though they may seem mundane at first, or obvious, or abstract.

Pay attention to how you feel when you acknowledge the beauty in something. You may call it powerful, loving, genius, peace….or beautiful.
